This method can be used not only to calculate productivity but also to divide productivity measures into indices that measure technical efficiency and technical change. In this report, relative efficiency measures and multifactor productivity measures are calculated for the agricultural sectors of 77 countries.

Using Data Envelopment Analysis to Measure International Agricultural Efficiency and Productivity

While increases in agricultural productivity improve economic welfare and can help address food security problems by benefiting both consumers and producers simultaneously, it has to address the depletion of scarce natural resources. In the context of changing climate, achieving sustainable and resilient agricultural production is a major corner stone in both adaptation and mitigation strategies. The measurement of agricultural productivity helps in knowing the areas that are performing rather less efficiently in comparison to the neighbouring areas. By delimiting the areas of low, medium and high productivity, agricultural plans may be formulated to remove and minimize the regional inequalities. Agricultural productivity is measured as the ratio of agricultural outputs to agricultural inputs.
